Spirit

Spirit

This piece is one that I enjoyed making. There are a lot of underlying meanings and symbols. The three gold light strokes represent the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The host is the body of Christ, and the Latin word Pax means peace. The chalice represents the the vessel that held the precious blood of Christ. Further down the chalice is a gold ring. I put that there to represent the covenant Jesus made with man, binding the cross in the background to the body and blood spilled for mankind. The red eminating from the ring (covenant) is the blood spilled at Calvary onto the land. Back to the three light rays, God represents Lord over the sky (light blue) oceans (cobalt) and land (green). Then there is the yin and yang, which represents mankind, together they equal a complete circle, but separated they represent good and evil. During the crucifixion it is believed on one side of Christ was the “good thief” and on the other was the “bad thief”. At the bottom is the purple which always represents royalty.
I combined two techniques of stained glassing, copper foil and lead came. It is also signed with my name representation in the lower right green land segment. I rarely do geometric shapes, but this was a labor of love as it was part of a dream.
